Beautiful Hill Stations In India - Ranikhet

Ranikhet is a major hill tourist destination in the state of Uttarakhand, India. It is a military cantonment located under Almora district of the state. Ranikhet is a very beautiful hill station surrounded by deodar and oak trees. From this location, the snow-capped central Himalayan ranges can be clearly seen. Pindari Glacier, Kausani, Chaubatia and Kalika can be reached from Ranikhet for a convenient tour. Chaubatia has state government fruit gardens. The main attraction of this hill town is the natural peace here. Ranikhet also has a military cantonment and a beautiful park for golf lovers.

In 1869, the British Government established the headquarters of the Kumaon Regiment in Ranikhet, and the town was used as a hill station to escape the Indian summer. At one time during the British Raj, it was also proposed as the summer headquarters of the Government of India in place of Shimla.

The name Ranikhet is derived from a local folklore which states that it was at this place that the Katyuri king Sudharamdeva won the heart of his queen. He later chose this area for his residence, though no one in this area The palace is not located.


TOURIST PLACES IN RANIKHET


GOLF CORSE 

Ranikhet Golf Course is one of the major attractions of Ranikhet. One of the highest golf courses in Asia, Ranikhet Golf Course has a 4-hole course. It is 5 km from Ranikhet Nagar.


KUMAON REGIMENTAL CENTER

Kumaon Regimental Center (KRC) is a museum run by the Kumaon and Naga regiments. The weapons and flag caught in various wars are kept here for display. In addition, the museum also has an LTTE boat caught during Operation Pawan.


ASHIANA PARK

Ashiana Park is located in the heart of Ranikhet Nagar. Created and developed by the Kumaon Regiment, this park has a special jungle theme for children.


MANKAMESHWAR TEMPLE

The temple is enclosed by the Nar Singh Maidan of the Kumaon Regiment. There is a gurudwara in front of the temple, and a shawl factory.


RANI LAKE

Rani Lake is located below the Veer Nari Awas near Nar Singh Maidan. Boating facility is available in this lake.


BINSAR MAHADEV

Binsar Mahadev is a temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. A carriage flowing near the temple offers a panoramic view. There is also an ashram situated amidst deodar and pine forests near the temple.


BHALU DAM

Bear dham (or Bhaludam) is an artificial lake situated near the city. From here one can get a panoramic view of the Himalayan ranges.


MAJKHALI

Majkhali is a picnic spot located 12 km from Ranikhet on the Almora-Ranikhet road. From here one can see the view of Trishul Peak located in Bageshwar.


HOW TO REACH

BY AIR
Tell those planning to travel by air that the airport near Ranikhet is Pantnagar Airport located 115 km from Ranikhet and this airport is well connected through roads. Taxis are available from Ranikhet to Pantnagar. You can also catch a bus from this airport to Ranikhet. It takes about 2 hours to cover the distance from Pantnagar Airport to Ranikhet.

BY TRAIN
Kathgodam is the nearest railway station to Ranikhet which is located at a distance of 88 km. The railway station is connected to some big cities like Delhi, Lucknow and Kolkata. From here you can take a bus or taxi to Ranikhet.

BY ROAD
Ranikhet is well connected by roads connecting major cities and towns in the state of Uttarakhand. Buses for Kathgodam and Nainital are easily available from ISBT Anand Vihar, Delhi. Buses and taxis are easily available from Almora, Nainital, Kathgodam to Ranikhet. After reaching Ranikhet, you can hire a taxi and roam around the city. You will be charged according to the number of kilometers and days of vehicle, rented.
