Beautiful Hill Stations In India - Mount Abu

Mount Abu is the only hill station in Rajasthan which is the most popular tourist destination of this state due to its serene environment and lush green environment. Mount Abu tourist destination is situated on a high rocky plateau in the Aravalli range which is surrounded by forest. The serene climate of this place and the view of the plains below make the tourists quite excited. Mount Abu's Nikki Lake is considered a very famous place for boating. Mount Abu is a popular Jain pilgrimage site and the only ancient hill station in Rajasthan. According to the mythology, thirty three crore Goddesses of Hinduism visit the holy mountain. It is believed that once the great saint Vashistha conducted a yagna here for the destruction of Asuras from the earth, Lord Mahavira, the twenty-fourth of Jainism, also came here. Since then, this place has become a sacred and religious place for Jain devotees.

It is also said that this place is named after the name Abu, son of Arbuada, the Himalayas. Arbuada was a very powerful snake, who saved the life of Lord Shiva by falling into the bull of Nandi. Later this place developed as 'Mount Abu', which became the abode of religious devotion. It is told in folk tales that many Hindu deities used to visit this serene mountain often. Gomukh, sage Vasistha has also resided here.



The Dilwara Jain Temple is the most popular and beautiful pilgrimage site for the Jains situated amidst the Aravalli hills of Rajasthan. The temple was built by Vastupala and Tejpal between the 11th and 13th centuries. The Dilwara temple is famous for it's intricate carvings and the marble structure of the har. This temple looks very simple from outside but when you see this temple from inside, you will be attracted by the designs made on its roof, walls, arches and pillars. Apart from being a pilgrimage place for the Jains, this temple is such a magical structure made of marble that attracts everyone towards it.


Mount Abu Wildlife Sanctuary is a place with rich biodiversity that makes it a small and good tourist destination list. This sanctuary is one of the oldest places in the Mount Abu mountain ranges and you get to see many scenic spots along with it's excellent views. This entire area was made a wildlife sanctuary to preserve flora and fauna. This sanctuary is a place in which lively vegetation of evergreen forests is found. Mount Abu has a Nakki Lake located in the Aravalli ranges, also known locally as Nakki Lake. Nakki Lake is India's first man-made lake with a depth of about 11,000 meters and a width of one mile. Situated in the center of Mount Abu, this charming lake is surrounded by lush green mountains, mountains and strange shaped rocks. It is said that in the Nakki lake, Mahatma Gandhi's ashes were immersed on 12 February 1948 and the Gandhi Ghat was built. Guru Shikhar is the highest peak in the Aravalli range, which is located about 15 km from Mount Abu. The height of this peak is 1722 meters above sea level, due to which one gets a very attractive view of the Aravali range and the hill station of Mount Abu. At this place is the Abuvedhshala and the cave temple of Guru Dattatreya which is dedicated to Lord Vishnu. The Observatory has a 1.2-meter infrared telescope. After the 15 km drive you have to climb some stairs to reach the Guru Shikhar. If you visit this place during October and November, then there is a lot of cloud and mist here. The tourists coming here feel as if they are going to the Guru Shikhar with the help of clouds as mist appears around them. This place makes the tourists happy.


The Gaumukh Temple is a temple dedicated to Lord Shiva, located one kilometer from the city at Mount Abu. To visit this temple, you have to go through a 700-step holy climb. This temple offers a panoramic view of the surrounding valley. The Gaumukh temple is crowded with tourists and devotees throughout the year. Situated amidst the thick forest, this temple welcomes you to the idol of Nandi with the idols of Gaumukh (Cow Kapmukh), Lord Krishna, Lord Rama and Rishi Vasishta. The marble bull idol (mouth watering) in this temple is dedicated to Nandi, the bull of Lord Shiva in Hindu mythology. By coming here, you can see the beauty of nature and also enjoy trekking to the fullest. It is said about this temple that this temple was built in the dedication of Saint Vasistha who performed a yajna to build the four major Rajput dynasties. The Agni Kund where the yajna was performed is one of the main attractions of this temple. It is known from the legend of Ramayana that Rama and Lakshmana came to this place during the time of exile to seek knowledge and took blessings from the sage Vashistha who lived here.


Arbuda Devi Temple is considered to be the holiest pilgrimage point of Mount Abu. This temple is considered to be the sixth Shaktipeeth out of 51. Arbuda Devi is said to be an incarnation of Katyayani Devi. On the occasion of Navaratri, the tourist place of Mount Abu turns into a spiritual city. People from far away come here to visit the Arbuda Devi temple. Let us tell you that this temple is located inside a cave, for which you have to climb 365 steps to see it. It is said that near the temple there is a holy well made of milk colored water. The permanent residents here consider this well as Kamadhenu (sacred cow). This sacred well is also the main source of water for the temple. This temple built of huge solid rocks is one of the best specimens of rock temples in India.


The Travors Tank, located 5 km from Mount Abu, is an extremely popular place for nature lovers. It is named after an engineer named Trevor who designed it. The reservoir remains in a secluded forest popular for viewing crocodiles, birds and other wildlife. Currently it is a popular picnic spot for both locals and tourists visiting here every year. This place shows you a magnificent view of nature.


Toad Rock is known as the mascot of Mount Abu, it is a wonderful place made of rocks where you will see big rocks. Tod Rock is the most visited place by all tourists visiting Mount Abu. You can climb the cliff here to capture the stunning views of the surrounding lake and lush green mountain areas and capture some beautiful scenery with the help of your camera.


Shree Raghunathji Temple, a 650 year old temple on the banks of Lake Nikki dedicated to the rebirth of Lord Vishnu. Which is one of the holiest temples on earth, mainly seen by Vaishnavas. Shri Raghunath ji is believed to protect his followers from all natural disasters. Along with this, their devotees also believe that they will free them from the pain and all the problems of life. The architectural heritage of Mewar can be seen with the help of inscriptions on the walls of this temple. Delicate paintings and carvings are also seen in this temple. The exquisitely carved idol of Shri Raghunathji is the main attraction of Mount Abu.


Universal Shanti Hall which is the main gathering hall of Brahma Kumari Spiritual University, also known as Om Shanti Bhavan. This building was constructed in 1983. In this state of peace-filled white structure, about 5,000 people can sit. This hall has facilities for translation in 16 different languages during any event. Ever since this hall has been declared a public tourist place, more than 8,000 people visit it every day. If you want to travel by train then you will get many trains from Jaipur and Ahmedabad to Mount Abu. But if you are traveling to Mount Abu from any city other than Jaipur and Ahmedabad, then let us tell you that to get here you prefer taxi, because you may have difficulty in getting by train. To reach Mount Abu by train one has to go by long route.

To get to Mount Abu, you will get a state transport bus.The best way for international travelers to reach Mount Abu is to catch a flight from Delhi to Udaipur. After that they can reach Mount Abu by road from Udaipur with the help of private car or taxi.
