Mountains Of India - Guru Shikhar

Guru Shikhar Peak is the highest peak in the Aravalli region, 15 km from Mount Abu. Is located at a distance. It is situated at an altitude of 1722 meters. Tourists go on foot to this magnificent splendid peak. Travelers can have a complete view of the Aravalli region from the top of the mountain.

Guru Dattatreya Temple is an ancient temple situated on the top of this mountain. This temple is dedicated to Lord Dattatraya who is considered to be the incarnation of the divine Trinity Lord Brahma, Lord Vishnu and Lord Shiva. Other temples on this mountain are Shiva Temple, Meera Temple and Chamundi Temple. Apart from these temples, there is also an observatory from where land based infrared observations of celestial bodies can be made. The observatory is under the administration of the Physical Research Laboratory (PRL).

If you are going to visit Guru Shikhar, then walking in the morning for you can prove to be quite good for two reasons. The first is the breathtaking sunrise view and the second is the breakfast served by the shops. The shops situated on the banks of the road here sell very tasty snacks and their tea is also very good. Here you can get good food at any time of the day.

Those tourists who are visiting Guru Shikhar must visit the temple of Dattatreya, considered here as the incarnation of Lord Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva. Other temples near it include Chamundi Temple, Shiva Temple and Meera Temple. Apart from this, Mount Abu Observatory located here is very special. There is also a peace park which is located close to Guru Shikhar and attracts a lot of tourists.

If you want to know about the good time to visit Guru Shikhar, then tell you that the best time to visit here is during the months of October to March. If you visit this place during October and and November, then during this time the weather becomes more cloudy and misty. At such a time, climbing to Guru Shikhar would feel like walking through the clouds because there is mist all around.

The roads are very uneven after the road ends at the time of the climb of Guru Shikhar, so you have to be cautious while traveling with elders and children. While going to Guru Shikhar, wear comfortable footwear which will stay on the ground well. Climbing can be a bit steep at many places but crossing it is not a difficult task.

BY AIR
If you want to go to travel to Guru Shikhar and are traveling by train, then we have already told you that Guru Shikhar is located at a distance of 15 km from Mount Abu. The nearest airport to Mount Abu is located in the city of Udaipur. The distance from Udaipur to Mount Abu is about 185 km.


BY TRAIN
Mount Abu has no railway station of its own in the city. The nearest railway station to visit Guru Shikhar is on Mount Abu Road and is 28 km from the city. This railway station is well connected to major cities of India such as Delhi, Ahmedabad, Jaipur and Mumbai.

BY ROAD
A better option is to travel by road to reach Guru Shikhar near Mount Abu. Mount Abu is well connected to all major cities via roads. Close to it is National Highway number 14 which is situated at a distance of 24 km from it.
